Transgender & Gender Reassignment Information and Resources

Texas laws do not prohibit a transgender person from seeking gender reassignment. Many people have successfully obtained name changes*, gender marker changes, and new legal documents, including, but not limited to: driver's licenses, passports, social security cards, birth certificates, etc. in accordance with their gender identity.  In order to obtain gender marker and name changes, people do not have to have undergone surgery or hormone therapy.  However, many small towns and counties may be hesitant to assist or comply with requests due to personal biases. Please request an appointment with the Attorney for Students Office to assist you in navigating this process.

*Please be aware that these services are not limited to those individuals who are prepared to legally change their names. There are services that allow for individuals to use their chosen names on campus for example, on email, class rosters, etc. without going through an official legal process. Please consult the Attorney for Students for more information.
